In a previous, I listed six teams that will be in contention for the National Title throughout the 2016-2017 college football season. We all know that it can only be four teams that are allowed to enter the playoffs for the right to win the National Championship. Today, I am listing the four teams that I believe will make it to the semi-finals of the college football playoffs.
2016-2017 College Football Playoffs Semifinals
Peach Bowl: 1 Clemson vs. 4 Tennessee
1 Clemson 38
4 Tennessee 27
The Tennessee Vols will avenge last season’s gut-wrenching loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The win against the Crimson Tide will put them in the driver’s seat to play in the semi-finals of the postseason. Their only stumbling block after that may be against a SEC West opponent in the conference championship game in Atlanta.
Possible opponents in the SEC Title game could be LSU, Ole Miss, or possibly Alabama once again. The Vols will face the Clemson Tigers in the Peach Bowl on December 31st. Tennessee will have the home-field advantage due to the strong SEC presence in Atlanta, but it will not be enough to hold down Deshaun Watson and the Clemson Tigers. You can expect this contest to be a close one.
Fiesta Bowl: 2 Michigan vs. 3 Oklahoma
2. Michigan 28
3 Oklahoma 17
The Michigan Wolverines versus the Oklahoma Sooners will be a classic matchup between two historic programs. I am predicting that Jim Harbaugh will lead the Wolverines back into the National Championship conversation for the first time since the 2006 campaign.
The Sooner/Wolverine matchup will showcase a fast pace offense from the Big 12 going up against a physical, but a slow team from the Big 10 Conference. History has shown us that high-powered offenses do not come to play in National Championship games. The Wolverines defense will figure out a way to slow down the Sooner offense and advance to the final round of the college football playoffs.
College Football National Championship Final Round: 1 Clemson vs. No. 2 Michigan
1 Clemson 42
2 Michigan 34
The Clemson Tigers will face the Michigan Wolverines in the championship round of the college football playoffs. Jim Harbaugh is no stranger to having his teams show up to play in big games. He did it with the 49ers in the NFL, and now he will have the Wolverines ready to go against the Clemson Tigers.
This matchup could be Deshaun Watson’s finest performance as college football quarterback. Win or lose; I do not expect Watson to return to Tigers after this season. My prediction for this game is that the Tigers will come from behind to defeat the Michigan Wolverines to win the 2016-2017 National Championship.
