Last season, the Minnesota Vikings took the football world by surprise when they knocked off the Green Bay Packers in the final game of the season to win the NFC North Title. The Vikings are one of the remaining teams in the league that runs their offense through a running back. The running back that I am talking about is All-Pro Adrian Peterson. Peterson continues to show that “age is only a number” at his position.
At the age of 30, Peterson won his third rushing title of his illustrious career when he ran for 1,485 yards. It looks like Peterson gets better as the seasons go by. If a team is using their running back as the primary option, they must have a defense that is capable of making big plays.
The Vikings have the personnel on the defensive side of the ball that is capable changing the outcome of a football game. In 2016, the Vikings defense ranked 5th in the league by giving up only 18.9 points per game.
A player to watch on the Vikings defense is linebacker Anthony Barr. Last season, Barr was a key contributor in the Vikings having an 11-5 record and winning the NFC North Division Title. This season Vikings will have to show that last year’s 11-5 campaign was no fluke.
