After another crazy week of football, it’s time for the Gridiron Fanatic Top 15 Team Power Rankings post. The New England Patriots are currently on a two-game losing streak, which resulted in a drop in the rankings. The Carolina Panthers remain the no.1 ranked team in the league for Gridiron Fanatic after they defeated the New Orleans Saints 41-38.
1. Carolina Panthers
The two priorities for the Panthers to accomplish is securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs and become the 1st team to go undefeated in the regular season since the 2007 New England Patriots.
2. Arizona Cardinals (Previous Ranking 3rd)
The Arizona Cardinals continue to show that they are one of the premier teams in the NFC after they defeated division rival the St. Louis Rams 27-3 at the Edward Jones Dome. Their next contest is a showdown at “The Desert” against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football.
3. Cincinnati Bengals (Previous Ranking 5th)
The Cincinnati Bengals swept the season series with the Cleveland Browns when they demolished them 37-3. As of right now, they are the number one seed in the AFC Playoff Race. Let that resonate for a minute.
4. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are currently 3-0 with Brock Osweiler as the starting quarterback. Their recent victory came against the San Diego Chargers 17-3. Oswelier threw for 166 yards and one touchdown pass. The defense contributed to the Broncos success once again when Danny Trevathan intercepted Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers for a 25-yard touchdown score.
5. New England Patriots (Previous Ranking 2nd)
The New England Patriots suffered a shocking 35-28 loss when took on the struggling Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. The injuries to the Patriots key personnel on offense has finally caught up with them.
6. Green Bay Packers (Previous Ranking 7th)
After coming off a shocking Thanksgiving Night loss to arch rival the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers came from behind to the defeat the Detroit Lions 27-23. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a Hail Mary to tight end Richard Rodgers in the final seconds of the ball game.
7. Seattle Seahawks (Previous Ranking 10th)
If there is one team that can make a Super Bowl run coming out of the Wild Card spot, it is the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks won their third straight game when they steam-rolled the Minnesota Vikings 38-7. Going forward, I do not see this team losing another game in the regular season.
8. Kansas City Chiefs (Previous Ranking 9th)
The Chiefs left the Oakland County Coliseum with a victory when they took on their hated rival the Oakland Raiders. Chiefs safety Tyron Branch sealed the victory for the Chiefs when he returned an interception for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
9. Minnesota Vikings (Previous Ranking 6th)
The Minnesota Vikings must resolve their inability to score points on offense outside of Adrian Peterson. When the Vikings eliminated the threat of A.P. last Sunday, the game was over.
10. Pittsburgh Steelers (Previous Ranking 13th)
On Sunday Night Football the Pittsburgh Steelers showed why they were one of the most explosive teams in the National Football League when they defeated the Indianapolis Colts 45-10. The offense was clicking on all cylinders when the Steelers tore apart the Colts. Wide receiver Martavis Bryant caught passes for 114 yards and a touchdown score.
11. New York Jets
In a battle for bragging rights in “The Big Apple,” the New York Jets came from behind to defeat their sister franchise the New York Giants 23-20. Brandon Marshall tore apart the Giants secondary when he caught 12 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown. Marshall also became the first player in NFL history to have a 1,000-yard season with four different franchises.
12. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills hopes of making the playoffs are still alive after they pulled off the victory against the Houston Texans. Their next opponent will be against the Philadelphia Eagles. Bills running back LeSean McCoy will be facing the team that decided to trade him in the off-season for Kiko Alonso.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Buccaneers found their way into the playoff picture when they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 23-19. They will have an opportunity to improve their playoff chances when they host the New Orleans Saints this Sunday.
14. Houston Texans (Previous Ranking 12th)
The Houston Texans failed to take the lead in AFC South when they lost to the Buffalo Bills 30-21. Due to the Indianapolis Colts losing against Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football, the Texans remain tied with Indianapolis for 1st place in the AFC South.
15. Atlanta Falcons (Previous Ranking 14th)
The final opportunity for the Atlanta Falcons to come back to relevance in the National Football League begins this Sunday when they take on the Carolina Panthers. The “Dirty Birds are now on a six-game losing streak after losing to the Bucs.
