The Week 13 showdown between the Indianapolis Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers will have significant playoff implications when they face each other on Sunday Night Football. The Colts are 4-0 with backup quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck under center.
However, during Hasselbeck’s tenure as the Colts starting quarterback, they have not faced a football team that is capable doing serious damage on offense like the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers head into this matchup motivated after losing last week’s contest against the Seattle Seahawks 39-30.
Any shot at grabbing hold of the division lead the AFC North faded after last week’s crushing defeat. Their primary focus will be to grab a spot in the AFC wild-card round of the playoffs. They are currently the projected 8th seed in the AFC Playoff Picture. On the other hand, the Indianapolis Colts are in a fight with the Houston Texans for sole possession of the AFC South.
The Colts were expected to run away with the division even with quarterback Andrew Luck out of the lineup. The Colts have won four consecutive ball games with Hasselbeck at the helm, but the Texans are on a winning streak of their own. The Colts defense must figure out a way to slow down the potent Steelers offense if they want to come out as the winners this Sunday.
Hasselbeck needs to take advantage of the Steelers dismal secondary that ranks 30th in the league against the pass. Their defense is nowhere what it used to be six years ago. Even with a loss in this contest, the loser will still be alive in the AFC Playoff Race. However, as the weeks go by the margin for error will become smaller and smaller.
My prediction for this contest is that the Steelers will win this game by the result of a thrilling last-minute touchdown pass by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The Colts do not have the personnel on defense to contain the Steelers dynamic receiving corps trio.
