9 Michigan State 35
3 Ohio State 49
The most anticipated matchup of the B1G Conference is finally upon us as the Ohio State Buckeyes host the Michigan State Spartans in a game that has playoff implications all over it. Even though the Spartans have one loss under their belt, they are still very much alive in the College Football Playoff hunt.
To take the next step forward, the Buckeyes lie in their path. The last time the Spartans faced the Ohio State Buckeyes, quarterback J.T. Barrett put on an aerial show as the Buckeyes won 49-37. The Spartans tried to keep the game close in the first half, but they could not contain J.T. Barrett and Buckeyes offense.
Their ability to hold J.T. Barrett along with Heisman Trophy candidate Ezekiel Elliot will be the keys to their success this Saturday in Columbus. Michigan State’s opponent, the Ohio State Buckeyes is still undefeated and is currently ranked no. 3 in the recent College Football Playoff rankings. For the Buckeyes to remain undefeated this Saturday, they must run the football consistently against the Spartans and utilize quarterback J.T. Barrett wisely in this contest.
The Spartans defense is nowhere near what it used to be a few seasons ago; I expect Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer to exploit those deficiencies this Saturday. The Spartans may have issues on defense, however; they still have star quarterback Connor Cook. He has been the pulse of the Spartans ball club this season.
Last Saturday, Cook suffered a shoulder injury in the Spartans victory over against Maryland; he will indeed play in the big matchup in Columbus this Saturday. His presence will be needed to go against Buckeyes vaunted defense led by Joey Bosa. My prediction for this contest is that the Spartans will give the Buckeyes all they can handle this Saturday, but their defense will allow them to lose this ball game.
