2 LSU 26
4 Alabama 23
This Saturday the Alabama Crimson Tide will have an opportunity to prove that they are worthy of their no. 4 ranking in the college football playoffs standings when they take on the 2nd ranked LSU Tigers. These two programs set the standard when it comes to building football programs to contend for a National Title on a consistent basis.
The possible outcome of this game is that the winner will most likely secure a spot in college football’s version of the Final Four which starts on New Year’s Eve. I know that many analyst and fans around the country were upset about Alabama’s no. 4 ranking in the playoff rankings, however; this is the highly versatile Alabama Crimson Tide.
These were the same people that had written the Crimson Tide off after Ole Miss defeated them at home. The loss versus Ole Miss was the last time that we saw Bama outplayed in a crucial matchup. The two other teams that were supposed to give them problems were Texas A&M and Georgia. Those two ball clubs were a “no contest” for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama outscored both Georgia and Texas A&M 79-33 in the two ball games. Now they will have to step up to the plate against the other premier program in the SEC known as the LSU Tigers. LSU have not defeated the Crimson Tide since the 2011 season. They must not make the silly mistakes that cost them to lose this ball game last year.
LSU must make smart decisions when it comes to throwing the football, and their defense must eliminate the threat of quarterback Jake Coker, who is capable of taking off with his legs if he needs to. Even if LSU loses this contest, they still have a chance of advancing to the playoffs in January; it’s only the first week of the college football playoff rankings.
On the other hand, Alabama playoff hopes will mostly be over if they lose against LSU. My prediction for this ball game is that you will not see an air show in this contest. This game will be decided in the trenches as usual and on this Saturday, LSU will win this battle that is always fought in the trenches.
